Things You'll Need:
- Original listerine mouthwash
- Cotton balls
- Clean hand towels
- Clippers
-
Step 1
1. Using clippers (or you can use scissors) shave or cut around the HOT SPOT area if needed, be very careful as not to hit the infected area.
-
Step 2
2. Clean area with a mild soap and water mix. Pat dry with a clean hand towel. Baby shampoo or an organic soap is a good choice.
-
Step 3
3. Soak 4-6 cotton balls with the listerine, and apply gently to affected areas. You can repeat this 3 times a day. Original listerine in an antiseptic wash.
-
Step 4
4. MOST dogs do not like the smell or taste of listerine so they wont lick it off.
-
Step 5
5. Remember if HOT SPOTS look worse after you start treatment always consult your vet. Always keep an eye on any injury on you animals.

on 11/29/2009 Acid water from a water ionizer also helps. My Yorkie, Xiu-Xiu gets these - spraying the area with the acid water from one of my water ionizers always soothes the skin.
