If you love pool and you love online games, you don't have to choose between them. There are virtual pool games that mimic real pool. These games are set against realistic 3-D backdrops and give you complete control of the cue, including both shooting direction and angle of the cue to the table. You can play the game by yourself, or you can play a game against other online players from all around the world live on the Internet.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

    Pool Game Online

  1. Step 1

Download the 3-D pool game at Pool Game Online and install it on your system (see Resources). Pool Game Online's live pool game launches from a window that reads "Arcade Tribe."

  2. Step 2

Sign up for a Pool Game Online premium membership. You must have an account to access the online pool tables.

  3. Step 3

Log in to the lobby to join a game. The "Lobby" button will appear at the top of the "Arcade Tribe" screen. You will use the user name and password you created for your premium membership to log in. Once you are in the lobby, all of the available game rooms will appear on the left of the page. Click on the game room you want to enter. When the small menu appears, choose "Enter Game Room," then click "Play Now."

  4. Step 4

Wait for another player to join your table. As soon as another player enters the same room, the game will begin. Be careful not to exit the room by accident. You will not be able to go back in and finish the game.

  5. Step 5

Use the mouse to control the game. You can move left or right to change your aim. If you press the right mouse button as you move forward and backward, you can zoom in or out. Press the Shift key and move the mouse backward and forward to adjust the angle of the cue. Press Ctrl and move the mouse back and forth to strike the ball.

  6. TerraGame

  7. Step 1

Download TerraGame's 3-D pool game, Live Billiards 2 (see Resources). You must have the game installed on your system to play the game online.

  8. Step 2

Sign up for a silver or gold membership with TerraGame. You must have one or the other to play with other members. A guest membership will only allow you to watch the games being played.

  9. Step 3

Open Live Billiard 2 and click the "Web Play" option on the main menu. This will take you to the TerraGame site. Log in using the member name and password you created. Once you are logged in, you will be taken to the control screen where you can select from a variety of options, including options to watch a game, play a game or chat. Click "Play" to play live with other members. Once you go into the web play option, the TerraGame site will automatically select two players to play against each other.

  10. Step 4

Control the cue with your mouse. It can be moved left and right to change direction and up and down to control the angle. Once you have chosen a position for your cue, click and release the left mouse button to lock the cue in place. Move the mouse backward and forward to shoot. The speed that you move the mouse will determine the speed of your shot. To make difficult shots, hold the Ctrl key while you hit the ball. This will help control the direction of the cue ball.

Tips & Warnings
  • In both of these pool games, the cursor will be invisible while you are playing, making it impossible to make any changes within the game. If you need to locate your cursor, press the space bar to make your mouse appear in Arcade Tribe or the Tab key in Live Billiards 2.
