You can brew delicious Southern sweet ice tea in a table top coffee maker.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 large tea bags
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar ( or sugar substitute)
  • water
  • ice
  1. Step 1

Place 3 large tea bags in carafe of coffee maker, making sure the tea bag tags are hanging outside the pot after you replace the lid. They are difficult to fish out of hot tea after brewing!

  2. Step 2

Fill coffee maker tank with cold water
Turn coffee maker on, and after water finishes flowing through, allow tea to steep from 10 to 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, put sugar in a large pitcher, along with a small amount of cold tap water. (If your local water is not pure, use bottled water or use a water filter. The water must be good in order to make great tea (or coffee.)
Stir to dissolve sugar, then add 3 large glasses of ice and stir thoroughly.

  3. Step 3

Pour brewed tea into pitcher, taking care not to crush tea bags (to prevent bitterness)

Fill pitcher completely with water and stir.
Tea is now ready to enjoy, since the ice has made it cold enough to drink immediately!

Tips & Warnings
  • Sugar substitute works better than real sugar because it dissolves better in cold water. Amount of sweetener may vary according to taste.
  • It is important never to crush tea bags, in order to prevent bruising of leaves.
