How to Create a Football Helmet
Football helmets, more than any other single piece of equipment, represent the team you love. They also use a lot of subconscious signs to endear themselves to you. Yes, a helmet protects the player's head, but its logo also helps sell merchandise. Here's how to create a football helmet that will make your team look good on the field.

1
Decide what your team colors will be. This is a big decision, as colors have great meaning for people. Changingminds.org points out that, typically, red represents love and anger, orange represents enthusiasm and yellow represents happiness and energy.

2
Verify that the team colors you've chosen match with the mascot or team name. It may not be desirable for the "Fighting Tigers" to have pink helmets. You should also decide which specific shades of each color you will use. The Pantone Color Chart (see references below) is a good place to start and is the standard used by graphic designers.

Examine a number of different helmets from different time periods to decide what kind of shape and facemask you want your helmet to have. Depending on the position he plays, a player may have a smaller facemask for better visibility. When you do this, however, remember that the most important thing when it comes to a football helmet is the safety it provides.

Experiment with a number of different elements and combinations. Draw the helmet with and without a color band down the center, for example. Place the team logo closer to the top and to the bottom. Just a few millimeters can make a big difference. Consider adding uniform numbers to the helmets as well.

5
Represent your football helmet in digital form. This will allow you to send the results to others more easily. While there are many expensive photo-editing programs, the GNU Image Manipulation Program (or The GIMP) is powerful and is free to download.
