Like many applications, Microsoft Excel has toolbars preinstalled. These toolbars contain options that Microsoft expects the normal user will want readily accessible. All users are different, though, and may require specific commands and buttons that fit their individual needs. Thus, Excel 2000 provides the option for users to make customizable toolbars. This feature allows users to add commands and buttons to the toolbars that they use the most.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open Microsoft Excel 2000.

  2. Step 2

Click on the "Tools" menu. A drop-down list will appear. Select the "Customize" option. The "Customize" dialog box will appear.

  3. Step 3

    Click the "Toolbars" tab.

  4. Step 4

Click the "New" button. The "New Toolbar" dialog box will open. Under "Toolbar Name" type a name for the custom toolbar you are creating. Click the "OK" button.

  5. Step 5

Click the "Commands" tab. Drag buttons and commands to your newly created toolbar.

  6. Step 6

Select the "Options" tab. Here, you can make personal modifications, such as font sizes and on-screen tips options.

  7. Step 7

Click the "Close" button to exit the "Customize" dialog box.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can display or hide your toolbar. To do so, simply right-click any toolbar and select or clear the check box for your custom toolbar. Data are stored in the Excel.xlb file located in your user profile folder. If you make a backup of this file, you will be able to retain your customized toolbars in the case of a computer crash.
