Buying prescription drugs from Canada is reasonably easy and can save a great deal of money as opposed to buying the same items in the United States. The drugs are mailed right to your door, saving you a trip to the drugstore. There are many Canadian drugstores online, so ask questions and join the one that has the most to offer. One of the most important questions to ask (aside from prices and delivery) is about their refund policy in the event that you are not completely satisfied with your purchase.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Check the online credentials of each pharmacy. Make sure that the specific Canadian pharmacy you select is a properly licensed pharmacy in a legitimate drugstore in Canada. The pharmacy should also be a member of the Pharmaceutical Association and have its license number, store address and phone number prominently displayed on its website. Be wary of any Canadian pharmacies that do not meet these requirements.

  2. Step 2

Search the online Canadian drugstores to make sure that they carry your specific prescribed medications. Not all online Canadian pharmacies have the medications that come from the same United States pharmaceutical companies. Canadian pharmacies might have to order some medications from another country (which could delay delivery time to you).

  3. Step 3

Use the on-site 800 telephone number of the Canadian pharmacy and speak to a pharmacist about delivery schedules. Inquire about your specific medication(s) and whether the pharmacy carries it and if so, if it is in stock. Find out where the medications will be shipped from (if other than Canada) and how long delivery takes--usually two to three weeks.

  4. Step 4

Fill out the one-time new customer application from the Canadian pharmacy by clicking on "Join." Answer all of the required questions. List any allergies you have to specific medications. Include your name, home address and phone number. These questions are exactly the same as if you were going to order prescriptions from a pharmacy in the United States for the first time.

  5. Step 5

Place your order. Fill out the order form online and fax the original prescription to the Canadian pharmacy. Double-check the order to make sure you filled out the required information before you click on "Send" to place the order.

Tips & Warnings
  • Orders are usually shipped as soon as they're received. If you do not hear from the Canadian pharmacy in about three weeks, call it to check on your order. Reorder in about two months so that you do not run out of your three-months' supply of medicine before receiving your new order.

on 11/7/2009 The writer of this tip skipped the most important piece of information. She writes, "Make sure that the specific Canadian pharmacy you select is a properly licensed pharmacy in a legitimate drugstore in Canada." Good point. You forgot to say HOW.
