How to Change Broadband Provider
Being without a high-speed broadband Internet connection for any length of time can be a nightmare for people who need a constant connection. If you are moving to a new area or just simply want a better price, you may need to change your broadband provider, which can leave you without service for several days. Changing providers can be a delicate balancing act to make sure you get a price you can deal with on a time table that works for you.

1
Check if you are under a contract with your current broadband Internet provider. There may be a significant early cancellation fee if you are in a contract.
-
2
Choose your new provider. Compare other service providers online or go to their local offices. Ask them about their broadband Internet plans and find out the earliest date they can send a technician to turn on your service.

-
3
Confirm the date your new chosen provider will set up service. Contact your current provider and let them know you want to cancel your service on that date to avoid going without an Internet connection for any length of time.
-
4
Ask your current service provider if you need to return the broadband Internet modem they gave you or if you already paid for it when you signed up for service. Follow their specific return policies if you do not own the modem.
-
5
Find out if the new broadband provider requires you to install any software or make any changes to the settings on your router. Make any requested changes.
-
6
Talk with the technician who comes to install your new Broadband service or call the Internet provider's support center about your new email address. Note the new address provided through the company and set up your password.
-
7
Access your email software, such as Microsoft Outlook, if you are going to use the email address provided by the company. Go into the "Account" menu and type in the incoming and outgoing server information given to you by your Internet service provider. Tips & Warnings
Many broadband Internet providers have bundle deals that include phone service or cable television. Consider package deals to save money on combined services. If you are changing service providers because you are moving, you may be able to get out of an early termination fee. Ask your current provider if they will let you out of the contract if you are moving outside their service area.
Read the fine print of the terms for your new Internet service. Some broadband providers give you an introductory price that applies only to the first three months before the price goes up to the standard rate.
