How to Change a Tire

Learn how to change a cars flat tire were ever you are.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a flat tire
  • a spare tire that has air in it
  • a jack
  • a tire wrench
  1. Step 1

    As soon as you know you have a flat tire pull over safely. Pull over off the road so that you are out of the way of traffic. Put the emergency brake on and make sure car is turned off in park or if its a standard put in 1st gear.

  2. Step 2

    Look for the jack and tire wrench that comes with your car. It's either in your truck with the spare tire or under the engine hood over the fender.

  3. Step 3

    Using the jack, put it under the rocker panel of car closest to the tire that's flat. the rocker panel is the most bottom of the door jam under the car.

  4. Step 4

    Using the flat end of the tire wrench pry off the hubcap. Than loosen all the nuts (but don't remove them yet) that hold the tire on with the socket end of the tire wrench. Remember lefty losey righty tighty.

  5. Step 5

    Once all the nuts are lose use the jack to lift the car off the ground. Make sure the tire is completely off the ground before you remove the nuts.

  6. Step 6

    Remove all nuts, putting them in the hub cap so that you don't lose them

  7. Step 7

    Remove the flat tire by Squatting down in front of the tire with both hands grab the tire on each side and pull. You might fall on your buttocks if you pull to hard!

  8. Step 8

    Go get the spare tire that is in the truck under the cardboard that lines the bottom of the trunk.

  9. Step 9

    Roll tire over to car and resume squat position. looking through the bolt holes on the tire line up the top hole with the bolt on the car than slide tire on.

  10. Step 10

    Put all nuts back on each bolt and finger tight. You can try to use the tire wrench to help

  11. Step 11

    lower car slowly once nuts are secure

  12. Step 12

    Not done yet but almost.
    know Take your tire wrench and tighten all nuts in a skipping pattern but make sure you tighten all nuts firmly at least three times around in the pattern. Put hub cap back on

  13. Step 13

    now you can put the flat tire back in truck don't forget to get it fixed!! than remove jack from under car and put back were you found it.

  14. Step 14

    You are now all done and you can pat yourself on the back for doing this!!!

Tips & Warnings
  • Rember Lefty losey righty tighty when removing and putting back on the tire nuts
  • Squatting will save you back
  • You may step on tire wrench to help with tighting and loseing nuts
  • stepping on the tire wrench can be dangerous.
  • make sure car is in park withe emergency brake on
