How To Avoid Weight Gain This Holiday Season

With the holidays right around the corner, now is the time to think about your waist line. With the holidays come tempting fattening foods, holiday baking and colder weather which will keep you indoors more. Even if you are on a tight budget you can still keep your pants from fitting tight this summer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

PLAN AHEAD: If you are attending a holiday party you can avoid overeating and weight gain with some simple tips:
    * Drink Water and lots of it. This is a boring but effective weight loss tip. Fill your belly up with lots of water and you won't be hungry or temped by holiday goodies. If you are tempted and do some snacking you won't eat as much if you have drank a lot of water.
    * Cut back on other meals. On party day make all other meals very light and low calorie. Stick with vegetables and lean meats. Cutting back on calories at other meals will help you make up for the extra calories you may have at a party. If you make the right choices you can easily cut back 500 calories.
    * If you know there are going to be many temptations at a party eat a low fat small dinner before the party. This way you won't be tempted.
    * Choose fresh fruits and vegetables. If you are at a buffet style dinner go with fresh fruits and steamed vegetables.
    * Limit alcohol. Alcohol is full of calories. If you must drink then choose your alcohol based on calories. Light beer or a wine spritzer are smart low calorie choices.

  2. Step 2

DON'T EAT AFTER 7 PM POLICY: This is a simple rule to make for yourself. Don't eat after 7 pm. Eating anything after 7pm and this food is more likely to be stored as fat. A lot of celebrities use this rule for staying slim.

  3. Step 3

SAMPLE WHAT YOU LIKE: If you are like me and love holidays foods then don't give them up. Limit yourself to one or two bites of your favorite foods. The first few bites of food are always the best. Don't deprive yourself of your favorites but limit them to ONE OR TWO bites!

  4. Step 4

WORK OUT DVDS: There are some great inexpensive workout DVDs on the market. Not only are these exercise DVDs fun but they also won't break the bank. For less than $20 you can have a fun workout you can do in your own house. You can even get the kids involved. Some of the many different DVDs on the market today include:

    * Walking DVDs. This may sound strange but yes there's a very successful line of DVDs called "Walk Away the Pounds". These DVD's are perfect if you are stuck indoors due to bad weather of if you have young children.
    * Yoga & Pilates DVDs. If you've ever wanted to give yoga or pilates a try but don't want to pay for classes then start with a yoga or pilates DVD. With yoga or pilates you can make your body lean and more flexible.
