Have a lot of guest and one small round cake? I can tell you how to make the cake go further, and still look lovely.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A round cake, decorated to your liking
  • A sharp cake knife for cutting into the cake
  • Something to roughly measure (this is optional )
  1. Step 1

Bake and assemble or buy a round cake, the size does not matter. Before you start to cut into it, it obviously must be decorated and ready to cut for service.

  2. Step 2

From the center of the cake, measure the distance to one edge. You do not have to be exact, you can certainly measure it properly, but eye balling it works quite well. At the halfway point, you will make a mark on the cake ( this can be done with the tip of the knife ).

  3. Step 3

At that mark, cut all the way through the cake with your knife, slowly as to be neat, take the knife all the way around the cake, cutting a donut shaped circle out as you go. Do not remove the outer ring of the cake!

  4. Step 4

Once your cake is cut through into two sections, you can use the knife to cut the outer ring of the cake into service sized pieces. When the outside ring is completely gone, you can then cut the remaining circle of cake as you normally would. This not only doubles the servings of the cake, but it still looks lovely when served.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure knife is sharp for a nice clean cut
  • You can dip you knife in water between slices to keep the cake from sticking to the knife
