Your baby is ready to start on finger foods and you're not sure what to start them on. An easy to eat finger food for babies are fries. But not just any fries, Sweet Potato fries. This is a great Stage 3 recipe.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 good sized Sweet Potato
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Foil
  • Olive Oil (or any type you choose)
  • Cinammon, nutmeg, ground black pepper
  • Ziptop plastic bag
  1. Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Step 2

Peel your sweet potato as much as possible. The skin is still a little too tough for your baby's stomach to digest, so the less skin, the better.

  3. Step 3

Once you have peeled your potato, slice it into strips about an 1/8 inch thick (a little thicker than you would get at fast food restaurants).

  4. Step 4

Prepare your cookie sheet by measuring and placing your foil on. Drizzle a little oil onto your cookie sheet. You only need a little oil so that the fries do not stick to the foil too much.

  5. Step 5

Place your fries in your ziptop plastic bag and add a dash of cinammon, nutmeg and black pepper. Close your bag and shake the fries and spices around to coat the fries.

  6. Step 6

Place your fries onto your cookie sheet in one layer. They can overlap each other, but not by too much, or they will not cook properly.

  7. Step 7

Bake your fries for 30 minutes until tender, but not crispy.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can experiment with other spices for your baby such as paprika to give it a little spice. If you are going to use paprika, use it sparingly. Too much and your baby might not like it.
  • Do not add salt. Salt is not recommended for children under 2. Studies have shown that it can cause hypertension in children.
  • Only give spices that your child has had before. If your child has not had any of the spices mentioned in the recipe, give one spice at a time.
  • New foods should be given 3 days apart to give your baby's body time to react to the new food.
  • If your baby develops a bumpy rash or has diahrrea anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, stop the new food right away. Your baby is allergic to it.
