How to Make Chocolate Coconut Sauce

Give your ice cream sundae a tropical kick with this coconut chocolate sauce. Makes 1 1/2 cups. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. heavy creams
  • 1 tsp. coconut rums
  • 1 oz. unsweetened chocolate - chopped fine
  • 1/2 c. semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 c. creams of coconut - well stirred
  • 1 tsp. coconut extract

Instructions

      In a heavy saucepan, whisk together cream of coconut and heavy cream.

      Bring the mixture to a simmer over low heat.

      Whisk in chocolates until they are melted and sauce is smooth.

      Whisk in coconut extract, salt and rum.

      Serve the sauce warm or at room temperature over ice cream.

Tips & Warnings

  • Chopped pineapple is an ideal topping to accompany chocolate coconut sauce.

  • If you can't find coconut extract, leave it out. Your sauce won't have as strong a coconut flavor, but it will still be luscious.

  • Coconut cream is not the same as coconut milk: It's thicker and sweeter. You're more likely to find coconut cream in the bar or cocktails section of the market, as it's used in making piña coladas.
