make a Fire Starter FREE

I will show you how to make a fool proof fire starter. No need for lighter fluid.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paraffin Wax/Old crayons
  • Dryer lint
  • Cardboard egg carton
  • Metal coffee can/large soup can
  • Pan
  • Newspaper/paper
  • Cardboard egg carton
  1. Step 1

Take your paraffin wax (available in home canning section at grocery store)or old crayons with the paper removed and put in coffee can.

  2. Step 2

Take pan and fill half way with water and get a slow boil.

  3. Step 3

Carefully set coffee can into the slow boiling water to totally melt the contents.

  4. Step 4

Spread out newspaper/paper on your work area. You want something to catch any dripping wax that does NOT need to be cleaned up.

  5. Step 5

Set egg carton on work area.

  6. Step 6

Take your dryer lint and fill 1/2 of each egg cup.

  7. Step 7

Make sure your dryer lint is completely dry. It comes out of the dryer somewhat damp. You want it as dry as possible.

  8. Step 8

Now with your melted wax/crayons carefully pour onto the dryer lint. You will only need to cover the dryer lint not fill up the egg cup.

  9. Step 9

    Let cool and harden.

  10. Step 10

To use tear off an egg cup and light. Do NOT hold egg cup in your hands this will ignite quick and burn for quite a long time.

Tips & Warnings
  • This can be made for FREE with items from around the home.
  • Great for overnight backpacking as fire starters weight almost nothing. (store in plastic bag)
  • Kids can make these with adult supervision.
  • Great for Scouts/Scouters.
  • Don't worry to much if the cardboard egg cup gets damp the wax will still light.
  • I would only use this for outdoor fires.
  • Quick and long lasting flame.
  • Very HOT!!
