Grubby Jar Candles
Grubby Jar Candles

These grubby jar candles make a very nice candle. When candles are made from scratch they are much stronger than just an over dipped candle. I will show you each step to making the perfect grubby jar candle.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Container Wax
  • Jars
  • Scented Candle Oil
  • Wicks
  • Caution Label
  • Presto Pot
  • Large roasting pan (disposable)
  • Hard plastic spatula (to whip wax)
  • Thermometer
  1. Step 1

Gather all of your supplies so you don't have to leave your candle making area. Make sure that you have your counter or table covered with newspaper or cardboard. Put your wax into the presto pot to start melting it. 1 full presto pot will hold 8 lbs of wax and will make approximately 6-8 16 ounce jar candles.

If you fill the pot full to the top you will need about 1/2 to a full cup of Fragrance oil depending on how strong you want your candles to be. Add your color. 1 Color block will color about 10 Lbs of wax. After you add it and let it melt, stir the wax. Drop a drip of wax on your paper to test the color and go from there. You may have to add more color depending on what your looking for.

  3. Step 3

Pour your wax into aluminum roasting pans or cake pans. Be very careful not to spill it. Use your measuring cup to transfer some wax out of the pot before you try to pour it. Leave it set for a while until it starts to skim over.

  4. Step 4

Its a good plan to have your jars ready while you are waiting for the wax to start a skim over. Get them and put your silicone or wick stickums on the tab of the wick and center it in the bottom of the jar.

  5. Step 5

Using your hard spatula gently stir the wax so that it starts to gop up in the pan. Be careful not to let it spill out.

  6. Step 6

Start putting your wax into the jar using your spatula, you want the wax to still be very liquid with a little bit gobbing up. This will create a good seal around the wick. If it is too hard you will not get a good burn from a grubby jar candle.

  7. Step 7

Make sure you are getting the wax against the sides of the jar as well as around the wick good. You will need to straighten the wick as you add the wax. It will be messy. With practice you can become a bit less messy! LOL

  8. Step 8

After you have completed all of the steps, you will have a finished grubby jar candle! Now you need to wait at least a day until you burn it. Trim your wick to 1/4 inch before you light your candle. Now you are ready to go and enjoy your candle. If you plan on using it as a gift or selling it, you need to have a warning label on it. Warning labels can be found at any candle making suppliers. Enjoy your candle!

Tips & Warnings
  • Please note that candles are dangerous. Keep your candle and candle making out of the reach of children and pets.
  • When wax is hot, it will burn
