If you are having difficulties getting a checking account from your local bank because of Chexsystems, bad credit or other reasons. I would suggest looking into something banks offer called second chance checking. Many banks offer programs that can help you establish a “second chance” banking account, the trick is finding an established bank that offer these types of programs. Here are a few steps you can follow to secure a second chance checking account.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine if a second chance checking account is really needed. You can do this by making sure for yourself if your credit is really beyond repair. I would recommend getting a free credit report sent to you so that you can go over the details and make sure everything is correct, some credit reports have mistakes on them that affect the score and peoples lives.

  2. Step 2

Talk to more than one bank and ask them what options they have available for someone with credit issues. Many times banks will set up a way for you to get a checking account without even discussing the option of second chance checking, because their banking system either over looks or omits the Chexsystems.

  3. Step 3

Visit with your current bank. The loyalty of you and your bank may play a part in receiving something like second chance checking. It never hurts to go over the options available if it could mean securing a new checking account.
