Dipping sauce for the spring rolls

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hoisin sauce
  • Peanut butter
  • Fresh garlic cloves
  • Sugar
  • Cooking oil
  1. Step 1

This sauce is eaten with the Vietnamese spring rolls; see my other recipe. In a small pot or pan, add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. I prefer olive oil since it is better for you. Heat the oil on medium high and crush 2 cloves of garlic and stir in the oil till brown. Add ingredients in step 2 below.

  2. Step 2

Pour in 1/2 cup of hoisin sauce (sold in Asian store or any grocery store), 1/3 cup of water and 3 tablespoons of peanut butter. Combine all into the pot from step one above. Stir under low-medium heat until all are mixed and blended. If sauce gets too bubbly, lower heat. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and stir for one more minute. Sauce is now ready.

  3. Step 3

Pour sauce in a small dish and garnish with crushed peanuts on top. If you like it hot and spicy, add some Sriracha hot chili sauce (is also sold in Asian store or any grocery store).

Tips & Warnings
  • If sauce is too runny, add more hoisin sauce and/or peanut butter. If sauce is too thick, add more water. Add a little bit at time until you get the consistency you want.
  • Has peanuts. Not for those who have allergies to peanuts.
