Finished Egyptian Belly Dancing Bra

It is so expensive to buy belly dancing costumes these days. I can teach you how to make an Egyptian bra for much less than you would pay for one on line, or in a store.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A well fitting bra
  • 1/2 yard fabric
  • Lace trim
  • Beads
  • Coins
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • strait pins
  1. Step 1

Go to your local discount store and find a well fitting padded bra, in the color you would like your costume to be it to be.

  2. Step 2

Use the strait pins to pin fabric to bra cup. Pining along edges of the cup. Cut fabric around cup allowing a 1/4 inch seam allowance on all sides. Do the same for the other cup. Fold in seam allowances in and slip stitch fabric to cup of the bra where the inside and out side of the bra seam meet.

  3. Step 3

After bra cups are covered with fabric. Choose lace or trim and place on the inside edges of the cup. Hand stitch in place.

  4. Step 4

Next I like to have a little tummy coverage, so I cut 2 rectangles of fabric about 10x16. lay the right sides to together and fold them in 1/2

  5. Step 5

so I know have a 5x8 piece cut the corners of the raw edge off, so now I have 2 arrow shaped pieces of fabric. with right sides together I cut those pieces in 1/2.

  6. Step 6

Now you should have 4 pieces of fabric the same size and shape. With right sides together I sew the pieces together leaving a small opening to turn right side out. Press with iron for crisp edges.

  7. Step 7

Slip stitch to bra front bottom, under cup. Do same for the other side. Attach lace or trim to inside edges. Add beads and coins with needle and thread. I find it easer to start with the coin and string beads then attach them to bra.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be creative!! Do a web search get some Ideas on how you might want yours to look..
  • You can also use found items (ie. I found an old bamboo curtain in the trash. the bamboo was cut in to 1 inch pieces. I used the bamboo pieces for my coins. the costume had great sound.
