How to Make Belly Dancing Harem Pants
Bellydance is a dance form that requires a great deal of movement, and harem pants allow you to shimmy without any hindrance at all. Make your harem pants out of lightweight material, avoiding anything stiff that might hamper your movement. Sewing harem pants is a straightforward project, and it produces dramatic garment that follows your movements very well.

Measure around your waist with a measuring tape.

Measure from your waist line down to your ankle.

Cut out two rectangles of fabric with a a width equal to your waist measurement and a height equal to your measurement from waist to ankle.

Fold one rectangle along the width with the fold to your left.

Measure from the top right corner down 14 inches and mark that place on the edge with a piece of chalk. This is the crotch of your garment.

Measure from the bottom left of your garment across to 6 inches and mark this with a piece chalk. This is one cuff of your pant leg.

Cut from one chalk mark to the other.

Repeat steps 4 through 7 on the other rectangle.

Sew up the diagonal seam on each leg of fabric.

Sew the crotch seams together, leaving 2 inches unsewn near the waistband on the side that will be the front.

Hem the cuff of the pants by folding them up twice and stitching the fold flat.

Create a channel in the waistband of the pants by folding the waistline down twice, making a large 1 inch fold as you do so and stitching it flat. There is an opening into the channel at the place where you left 2 inches unsewn.

Cut 2 yards of a sturdy ribbon.

Attach a safety pin to one end of the ribbon.

Thread the safety pin into the channel, allowing it to pull the ribbon through. Wear the pants by putting them on and tightening the ribbon.
