Are you sick of boiling your tomatoes and having them fall apart in the pot? With this easy technique you can easily peel your tomatoes without them falling apart and you won't have to worry about burning your hands.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Take the tomatoes that you want to peel and throw them in the freezer 24 hours before you want to peel them. Put the tomatoes in a ziplock bag to protect them from freezer burn.

  2. Step 2

After the tomatoes are frozen, boil a large pot of water on the stove. When the water is boiling, take the tomatoes out of the freezer. Carefully drop the frozen tomatoes in the boiling water.

  3. Step 3

Just like unfrozen tomatoes, when you boil the frozen tomatoes the skin will come off. Only with frozen tomatoes, the skin will peel off quicker and since the tomato is frozen the rest of the tomato will not fall apart.

  4. Step 4

When the skin starts to split on the tomatoes, it is time to take them out of the boiling water. Use a large, slotted spoon and put the tomatoes in a strainer. If you catch the juice from the strainer in another pot, you can have fresh tomato juice. Let them sit for ten minutes, and allow them to cool back down. Now you can use your hands and peel the skin off the tomatoes.

  5. Step 5

You can let the tomatoes thaw and use them in your favorite recipes, or you can throw them in your recipe and let them thaw as you cook. You just have to take into account that the frozen tomatoes will slow down the cooking process by a few minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • This works great for recipes that use a lot of tomatoes like pasta sauce and salsa.
  • Be careful when dropping the tomatoes in boiling water, it likes to splash and can burn you.
