Things You'll Need:
- water
- sugar
- feeder
- opitonal "red food coloring"

Step 1
Take hummingbird feeder down from outside or from pre-bought package. Unscrew cap or lid from feeder and lay to the side.

Go to your fridge or pantry and take out sugar. You need 1 1/2 cups of sugar for small feeders(basic red and yellow feeders) and 2 1/2 cups of sugar for larger feeders.

Step 3
Fill 2/3 of your feeder with cold tap water and pour in sugar. You may add 3 drops of red food coloring to small feeders and 6 drops of red food coloring to large feeders.

Step 4
Place cap or lid back on feeder and tighten. Shake up and down until sugar has dissolved into mixture.

Step 5
Place hummingbird back outside on sheppard hook, etc and enjoy the humm of hummingbirds.

on 8/16/2009 I use 1/4 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water for my homemade hummingbird nectar. The birds are so amazing.
