These are tips can help your child have a calm bedtime routine. We have been using bedtime lists for about two years. They are wonderful.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Notebook or notepad
  • marker, crayon, pencil
  • stickers
  • body brush
  • ace bandage
  • lavendar spray
  1. Step 1

At bedtime, you and your child make a list of daily activities. Be sure to have a box or circle to check off. This is important.
Read your favorite book. For us it is one of Sandra Boynton's books. They are quick and funny. We have the entire collection.

  2. Step 2

We next brush her arms and legs with a special body brush used in sensory processing disorder. We got our brush from an occupational therapist. It is the brush use to get children used to textures.

  3. Step 3

Recite a visualization reading from a book tailor to your childs likes and interests, such we love the beach. So, it begins "You are walking along a sandy, sunny beach...."

  4. Step 4

Lastly, with nightlight on, and a couple of sprays of lavendar mist your child is off to dreamland. We even incorporate the lavendar into bath in the evening.

Tips & Warnings
  • Lists are important and it helps the child check off their day and put it to rest.
  • With the lavendar spray, I recite a saying that special to us as a farewell.
