Reporting Sexual Harassment

How to report sexual harassment by a co-worker.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A meeting with an HR person, and completion of complaint forms. Any proof you may have such as emails, letters, photos etc.
  1. Step 1

First, if you are experiencing harassment in the workplace, you must go to your human resource department and report the incident. In addition, if you feel you need to file an official complaint then you need to find out the proper channels that you must go through to report the incident.

  2. Step 2

If you have any documentation such as letters, notes, emails, photos etc, be prepared to present the proof to human resources to further assist them in their investigation. By law your employer must investigate the claims. Failure to investigate the claims of sexual harassment can place your employer in legal hot water.

  3. Step 3

In extreme cases, you may report the incident to the civil rights bureau in your area and they will conduct a full investigation. It is best for the employer to handle the situation rather to involve outside sources.
