Potty training a toddler

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A potty seat your toddler helped pick out
  • calendar
  • Any musical DVD/VIDEO on Potty Training
  1. Step 1

My advice is to have fun with potty training. I have three children and first thing I did was have them come with me and pick out a musical video "Elmos" on potty training. Speak to them without using baby words. Play the video at least twice a day ( have fun with your child).

  2. Step 2

Buy the potty chair. Have the child come with you and pick it out. Every child is different-when it comes to potty chair. One of my children liked the one that clips to the toilet bowl and has a bench to enable getting on and off. I don't recommend buy the pull-ups, as they need to feel the uncomfortable feeling of being wet- BUY COTTON training underwear-is the best, can be bought at walmart.

  3. Step 3

Have your child put on the cotton underwear during the day while in your home only and put a pull-up at night only, and when leaving the house for errands; etc. Have your child go to the potty every 30-45 minutes-to start off even if they don't have to go and reward them with a sticker(whatever you wish-wouldn't recommend candy).

  4. Step 4

Take your notebook out and start recording the times and days of the week, as this will help you predict when your child might have to use the potty. Keep a old/unwanted blanket/towel folded underneath your child just in case of an accident. Encourage your child always and NEVER show you are upset after accident because this will prolong potty training inevitably.

Tips & Warnings
  • Must keep a routine of all the steps and do consistently for faster result.
  • The birth of another child will most likely set back the child being potty trained.
  • Do not follow this if on vacation and if going on vacation soon wait until coming back.
