Summer is a great time to start a home improvement project! Whether it's something large scale like renovating a room to something smaller like painting, summer is a perfect time to work. Home projects can be frustrating but these tips will help you keep your cool-no matter how hot it is outside.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Patience
  • Organization skills
  • Good humor
  1. Step 1

Do have a plan. Have a firm idea of what you want to do before you start. It's fine to seek inspiration from the home improvement store as you shop but don't let yourself get totally derailed.

  2. Step 2

Do have a budget. Take a trip to your home improvement store and get some ideas on how much your project will cost. Add a little padding for unplanned expenses and then stick with it as close as possible.

  3. Step 3

Do learn how to measure everything. There are few things that you buy in a do-it-yourself project that do not require you to have a reasonable clue about the size of something. If you don't have a tape measure, buy one.

  4. Step 4

Do save your receipts and learn store return policies. More than likely you will buy the wrong thing or buy too much of the right thing and need to return it.

  5. Step 5

Do keep your sense of humor and have fun with it. Tensions can run high when you are in the middle of a mess with no relief in sight. Just remember that in the end this will be an improvement to your home and something you can look back on and be proud of.
