How to choose the lipstick shades that will look good on you according to your skin tone/hair color. Tips about lip liner. How to apply and wear lip liner and/or lip stick. Understanding the rules of 'warm or cool'

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lip stick
  • Lip liner
  • Lip gloss/chap stick
  1. Step 1

If you are Ethnic or olive skinned wear opaque lipsticks in cool colors, such as true reds, fuchsias or wines. If you are blonde or fair skinned wear sheer colors, still cools but more pastel. Medium skinned, darker cools, If you are a red head wear warm shades, like peach. Darker red hair, the darker the shade can be, such as a brick red.

  2. Step 2

You need to know that cool means there is the presence of blue, and warm means there is the presence of orange. If you are a true red head (not tinted to become one), maybe even with red freckles, you may wear warm shades, all other hair/skin colors need to stay with cool shades. When shopping for your correct shades, take something along, such as a scarf or nail polish in the correct shade to compare.

  3. Step 3

Now that you have the correct shade of lipstick for your skin/hair color, you need a lip liner, also. Line your top lip from just above the outer corner to the tip of your "bow" then repeat on the other side. Finish the top by drawing a V in the middle to join both sides. Draw your bottom lip from just inside of the outer corner to just below the tips of the "bow", now straight across to join the two sides.

  4. Step 4

Fill in the entire lip area with the lip liner, both top and bottom. Your lipstick will last much longer. Follow with your lipstick or lip gloss. For more subtle look, use chap stick instead. When you play up your lips your blush and eye shadow should be more subdued. By the way, make sure they are the correct shade for YOU by following the same warm/cool rule.

Tips & Warnings
  • Follow your own lip line for a more natural look.
  • Experiment. Mix 2 or 3 shades, blot lightly, then apply gloss or chap stick
  • Line lips after application of lipstick for a different look.
  • The names "Neutrals" or "Naturals" used for lipstick shades sometime tend to be on the warm side (the presence of orange)
  • All cosmetics can spoil or begin growing bacteria. If there is a funny smell or if you have had a fever blister, flu of virus throw it away.
  • Never share your cosmetics with anyone.
