Most hotel rooms are full of hazards for babies and toddlers, but can be child proofed in a short amount of time.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Duct Tape
  • Rubber Bands
  1. Step 1

Always pack a roll of duct tape and a handful of rubber bands when traveling with a mobile baby or toddler. Start from the floor and work your way up in the hotel room.

  2. Step 2

Begin with the electrical outlets -- cover these completely with a strip of duct tape.

  3. Step 3

Check under the beds and all items of furniture for choking hazards that housekeeping might have missed.

  4. Step 4

Next, look for power cords from lamps, televisions, radios, clocks, etc.
If possible, wind the cords up and secure with rubber bands. If this is not possible, and the item needs to remain plugged in, use the duct tape to securely fasten the cords to the base of the wall.

  5. Step 5

Move on to drawers, cupboard doors, and cabinets. Just tape these shut. The tape can be removed when you need to access your clothing.

  6. Step 6

If the radiator or air-conditioner is accessible, cover the controls with more duct tape.

  7. Step 7

Use rubber bands to shorten all drapery pulls and tie backs. Make sure that these are well above a child's reach. Check how easily windows can be opened, and make sure they are locked.

  8. Step 8

Be sure to remove your child proofing before you check out of the hotel.
