How to Grow Fresh Basil

I started growing fresh basil at my home and it saves money and the food is 10 times better!! In this article you will find instructions on how to grow it! After you grow your fresh basil you can dry and use it in your favorite dishes. This is a very easy and inexpensive way to grow fresh basil! If you choose to grow it inside the house, it gives off a wonderful, mouth watering aroma!

Things You'll Need:

• Good starting mix soil
• flower pot
• water
• a lot of sunshine

1. Put starting mix soil in the flower pot. Spread it throughout the pot evenly.

2. Open the seed package, and as you will see these are not very big seeds. The plants get very tall and bushy so plant 8-10 of the seeds (not all of them will come up) about 1/2 an inch apart.

3. Plant to a depth of the first joint on your index finger.

4. Water the newly sewn seeds and set them in a spot where they will get full sunshine.

5. They might take over a week to come up, but that's okay. Mine took over a week and they turned out great!

Tips & Warnings

• These plants get very tall and bushy so you need a medium size pot.
• When it looks like the picture I provided it is ready to be picked and dried.
• These plants require full sunlight so place them in a window sill/spot outside that gets all-day sun.
• I put mine outside and it did really well!
• When they start coming up, they are very small green leaves.
• The brand of starting mix soil (potting soil) does not matter; I used the store brand and it did great.
• Do not water too much because mold forms on the soil.
• Do not plant the seeds too close together because the plants that grow first will not allow the smaller/later ones grow.
