How to Stack a Three Tier Wedding Cake
Wedding cakes are known for being works of art. And since most wedding cakes consist of three or more layers, they can also get pretty tall. Although stacking a wedding cake is not very challenging, there are proper techniques that should be used when stacking to prevent the layers sliding off and to ensure the cake is level.
Things You'll Need
- Three layers of wedding cake
- Base
- Cardboard cake circles
- Straws or cake dowels

1
Lay out a very sturdy base. The base should also be relatively large, since it will probably have to be carried by two or more people when the wedding cake is transferred to the reception location. However, if at all possible, carry the layers separately to the reception location and assemble the cake there.

2
Place your bottom layer in the center of a cardboard cake circle, and then place the entire thing in the very center of the base.

3
Push three or four straws or cake dowels into the very center of the bottom layer. Arrange them so that they are in a bit of a square shape and spaced out a little to make the cake sturdier. Make sure not to space them too far apart because you want the straws or dowels to be underneath the next layer, which may be smaller.

4
Place the middle layer on a cardboard cake circle and center the entire thing over the dowels or straws you placed in the bottom layer.
-
5
Place three dowels or straws into the top of the middle layer, forming a triangle. You can put four dowels into this layer as well if it is an extremely large cake.
-
6
Place your top layer onto a cardboard cake circle and place it onto the straws or dowels in the middle layer.

Tips & Warnings
It is advised that you transport the three wedding cake tiers in separate layers to the reception location and then stack it once you arrive.
