Try these simply made "mashed potato" cupcakes at your next dinner party, April Fool's event, or Thanksgiving fun. Kids will love to make them and it's a blast to watch their expressions when they are forced to eat another helping of potato!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cake/Cupcake Recipe
  • Silver Cupcake Foils
  • Vanilla Frosting
  • Small Spoon
  • Yellow colored fruit candy (Starburst/Laffy Taffy)
  • Knife
  • Caramel Topping
  • Aluminum Muffin Tin
  1. Step 1

Following your favorite recipe, bake any flavor cupcakes using silver foils as the base. Allow to cool. For ease of frosting and a true "dinner" presentation, place cooled cupcakes in an aluminum cupcake pan.

  2. Step 2

Using a spoon, frost cupcakes with a mound of white, vanilla frosting. No need for fancy frosting tips or perfection, just cover the top of the cupcake. This mound will be your "potato."

  3. Step 3

Using a small spoon, or the tip of a spoon, make an indentation in the center of the frosting mound.

  4. Step 4

Cut a yellow, candy square (Laffy-Taffy or Starburst works well) in half and place on the edge of the frosting indentation. This will be your "butter."

  5. Step 5

Spoon caramel topping over the "butter," and "potato;" pooling in the indentation and dripping over the side to creat that poured gravy look.

Tips & Warnings
  • Spray silver cupcake foils with cooking spray before baking so cupcakes won't stick.
  • Kids will refuse these treats at first but be persistent! Just one taste of the gravy and they'll be hooked!
