Clip-on extensions cause the least amount of stress on the hair.

You can make hair extensions using real or synthetic hair. One of the safest methods you can use to make your own hair extensions is to use wig clips instead of glue to secure the extensions to your scalp. For your extensions to look more natural, you will want to use hair that is close to the color and texture of your natural hair. You can use extensions to provide volume, add color or extend your hair's length. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the beauty supply store to purchase hair. Ask the salesperson to help you find a hair that closely matches the texture and color of your natural hair. Make sure the hair you purchase is at least 16 inches long; you can always cut it. Longer hair will give you more styling options. While at the beauty supply, purchase your wig clips.

Wash the hair weft. The weft of hair should be washed in the same manner as you would wash your own hair. Use both a shampoo and a conditioner. After washing the hair, comb the strands so they are tangle free. If you notice any tangles, apply water to soften the hair and gently comb through.

    • 3

If you found a weft of hair that matches your texture but does not match your color, you will have to color the hair. Apply the hair dye and leave on the hair as instructed on the packaging. After the hair is dyed, you will have to re-wash the hair and comb through for a second time

Cut the hair wefts. Using sharp shears or scissors, cut the hair in 3- or 4-inch sections.

    • 5

Spread the wig clips along the hair weft and attach using the hair glue. Set the hair aside for two hours for the glue to dry.

    • 6

Part your hair in sections and apply the extension at the site for length or volume.
