Alzheimer’s Disease is an awful and debilitating disease that normally affects the elderly later in life causing them to forget and suffer from moderate to severe dementia. There are currently no definitive links to what causes Alzheimer’s Disease, but many recent studies show that there are possible preventative actions you can take to combat the onset of this horrible illness.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Keep your mind active with mental stimulation. You can stimulate your mind daily by reading, doing puzzles (i.e. soduku, crosswords, & word searches), playing cards (i.e. poker, solitaire, bridge, etc.), or pick up a hobby that you enjoy.

  2. Step 2

Stay physically active. Keeping your body healthy promotes general mental health. Find activities that you love to do like dancing, swimming, or walking. Nursing homes are starting to supply their activity rooms with the Wii Fit for a fun way to incorporate technology and fitness with the older generation. This could be a good fit for the technologically savvy.

  3. Step 3

Create a healthy diet plan. Eliminate the junk food from your diet and try to consume more fruits, vegetables, whole wheats, seeds, and fish into your diet. Remember to take daily vitamins or supplements for nutrients you are lacking. A healthy diet is necessary for maintaining full body health.
