Make a Rock Fountain
Make a Rock Fountain

You will learn how to build a hidden water rock fountain.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shovel
  • Rubber sheet or plastic
  • Hammer drill
  • Drill bit sized for tubing
  • Pump
  • Tubing
  • Rock
  • Cinder block
  • Landscaping rock or plants
  1. Step 1

First you want to find a rock that you like. I used a flat rock for my fountain. Also find the location you want the fountain to be at. Make sure that there is an outlet close by for the pump.

  2. Step 2

Dig the hole for the fountain 10" to 12" deep and about 2" bigger then the rock. Once this is dug place rubber liner in hole making sure that it comes up on to the flat ground about 3" all the way around. The size of the liner depends on the size of the rock and depth of hole.

  3. Step 3

Once liner is in hole place the cinder block into hole. Depending on the size of rock you may need to build up the cinder block. If the rock is round then the bottom of the rock will just be down in the hole.

  4. Step 4

Find the position of the rock as it will sit for the fountain. Locate the area you want the water to come out of and mark that spot. Take the hammer drill with the bit that is sized for the tubing that you have for the pump an drill the hole in the rock.

  5. Step 5

After drilling the hole insert the tubing into the hole and place the rock on the cinder block. Position the rock so if it is a flat rock it is tilting away from the hole for the water to run down the rock.

  6. Step 6

Place the pump in to the hole and connect the tubing. Cut off the extra tubing that is not needed. Run the cord over to the outlet. If the out let is to far away you will have to use an extension cord. Make sure it is an outdoor extension cord. Once pump is set fill the hole with water and then plug the pump in. You can adjust the water flow with the pump.

  7. Step 7

After everything is set and water is flowing how you like it, use the small rocks or other landscaping placing them up to the rock covering the rubber and hole.

  8. Step 8

Sit back and relax and enjoy the sound of the trinkling water.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you live in cold weather areas remove the pump in the winter.
  • Put bleach in fountain to help clean the algae off rock
  • you can install lava rocks in bottom to help with filtration.
  • If using extension cord do not use in rain my cause shock or a breaker to trip.
