Chrome paint can make almost any metal surface shine like a mirror reflection. Using chrome paint is not as simple as using regular paint. There are added steps and precautions to take when using chrome paint. This paint can be applied to any metal surface on your car, including the wheels.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dry cotton cloth
  • Airbrush gun (for small areas)
  • Automotive spray gun (for larger areas)
  • Clear coat paint
  • Mask respirator
  1. Step 1

Clean the surface that is to be painted with chrome paint. If the surface is not smooth, apply one coat of clear paint and allow it to dry completely. Clean the surface with a dry cotton cloth.

  2. Step 2

Spray a final clear coat of paint and allow it to dry completely. Clean the clear coat once more with a dry cotton cloth.

  3. Step 3

Apply a mist of the chrome paint over the surface. Use a light mist until you can see the mirror reflection on the surface. Use a small air brush gun when covering areas such as small graphics or small items. Use an automotive spray gun when spraying an entire car or an entire body panel on a car. Spraying too much chrome paint can cause the surface to look dull. Allow the chrome paint to dry completely (one full day).

  4. Step 4

Wipe the chrome dust off of the surface with a very soft cloth, such as a cotten shirt. If the paint comes off in any areas you can add more at this point.

  5. Step 5

Paint over the top of the chrome paint with a clear coat. If you want the surface a different color, tint the clear coat with that color. Spray two or three coats of clear on top of the chrome paint and allow them to dry completely.

Tips & Warnings
  • Allow the clear coat to dry completely before wet sanding or buffing the surface.
  • Never spray paint without using a painter's mask.
