Things You'll Need:
- Terracotta flowerpots in various sizes, acrylic paint, brushes, paper towels, water and sealer.
-
Step 1
Make sure that pot is clean and dry. Get all your supplies handy- paper towels and water to wash brushes-It woulld also be a good idea to cover the table you are working on with newspaper.
-
Step 2
I always put a base coat of white Gesso or white paint so that the colours will be brighter. Decide on your main colour and apply after about ten minutes, so that the base coat is dry.
-
Step 3
You can paint any design you like; polka dots,stripes,zig-zags or get more intricate and paint flowers of any sort.Ladybugs look very cute too, also butterflies. After paint is dry, put two coats of acrylic sealer; either brush on or spray, letting one coat dry before adding the next.I always paint and seal the inner lip of the flowerpot. It gives a more finished look.

on 11/28/2009 Thanks for the creative tips on how to paint flowerpots :) 5*****. Painted pots make such a difference in brightening up your yard, porch or greenhouse. I've also noticed its good to add a few extra coats of sealant or clear top coat to protect the paintjob as it will last a lot longer, one coat just doesn't seem to last very long, and make sure to dry well before applying the second or third coat :) Happy flowerpot decorating!
