Apply decorative shelf paper with a country theme to each shelf. Farm or country themes can include farm animals, farmland, barns and rural landscapes. Cut the shelf paper to fit, and then simply peel the backing from the paper and press the paper down on your kitchen shelves, running your hands over the paper to make sure it is flat and free of bubbles.

Decorate canning jars with country lace trim skirts, then label each of the jars and fill them with spices. Use homemade candles with country scents and line your shelf with them. Country scents include home-baked apple or peach pie, spring and summer scents or scented country flowers. Homemade candles not only smell good, they add color to your shelf.

Place favorite farm animal salt and pepper shakers in the corners of your shelf, particularly if you have a shelf near your stove or table.
