Although there’s a lot of money to be made selling ebooks, it’s not always so easy to write one. Fortunately there is a way to sell ebooks without having to sit down at the computer and write your own. You can obtain what’s called ebook resale rights.

What are ebook resale rights exactly? It’s when an author offers other people a license to sell his or her ebook. The resale rights buyer is permitted to sell the ebook without having to pay the author a royalty. In other words, you do none of the writing and you get to keep all the profits from the ebooks you sell.

There are many websites that provide resale rights packages on hundreds of ebooks. Unfortunately, a lot of times the ebooks on these sites are outdated, over sold, or just plain boring.

There’s a better way to obtain resale rights – and very few people are doing it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet access
  1. Step 1

Decide what topic you’d like to focus on. While there are an abundance of Internet marketing, business and investing related ebooks, there are ebooks written on many other topics. It’s best to choose a topic in which you have a passionate interest. It’ll make selling the ebook much easier.

  2. Step 2

Look for ebook websites in your niche that have a high Alexa number. Alexa is a popular ranking tool that measures the number of people visiting a particular website. The lower the number (under 100,000) the more popular a website is. A higher Alexa number (3 million or more) typically means the site doesn’t receive a lot of visitors. You want to find ebook sites that have a higher Alexa number.

  3. Step 3

If a website has a high Alexa number, e-mail the author. The logic is that a higher Alexa number means the website isn’t extremely popular. An unpopular website may not be producing a large number of sales, and that’s great news for you. If the author isn’t getting a lot of sales, they may be willing to sell you the resale rights at a low price.

You can send the author a brief e-mail like this:

    --------------------------
    Dear ________________,

Although you don’t have it listed on your website, I wanted to know if you’d be willing to sell the resale rights to your _____________ ebook.

I’d be willing to pay you a flat fee of _________ for the resale rights. I wouldn’t change the content in any way. You’d still be listed as author, retaining the copyright. Plus I’d still sell it at the price you currently have listed on your website, so the value won’t be diminished in any way.

You’d receive upfront payment for the resale rights via check or PayPal – whatever’s convenient for you. And I’d handle all customer service issues for my buyers. The only thing you’d have to do is send me written confirmation that I have the right to resell your ebook.

If you’re interested, please let me know as soon as possible. I may also be open to negotiation.

    Thank you,

    Your Name Here

Tips & Warnings
  • If the ebook is under $25, start off offering 10 times the current price of the ebook. If it’s over $25, start off offering 3-5 times the current price.
  • Always be sure to get written and signed agreement from the author. You don't want to run into any legal troubles later on.
