Many view child rearing as difficult. Truthfully it is. Both parents play a vital role in raising a child. It is very important to instill values and principles in your child while he is still young. True, it is a formidable task raising children in the twenty-first century but it can be done.

What does a child need? Training. Training should start at a very young age. The brains of a newborn are ready to receive information. Talking and reading to your baby is essential for healthy development.

Raising a child is challenging. It takes time, energy and some practical steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Love
  • Time
  • Patience
  • Consistency
  • Willingness
  1. Step 1

Be a good example to your child. Live by what you teach your child. Children are greatly influenced by what you say and do. Don't forget, their brains are like sponges.

  2. Step 2

Be a companion. This requires spending time with him regardless of how busy you are. Be available. This shows that you like being with him.

  3. Step 3

Be a teacher. Talk to your child regularly about what's really important in life, why it's good to do what is right, what happens when he makes a bad choice, and why he should respect others.

  4. Step 4

Discipline when needed. Discipline to many people is a bad word. But without it, you could create a monster. Discipline is necessary to correct both the heart and mind. When it's based on love and not anger, it can yield positive results. The child should always understand why he is being disciplined.

  5. Step 5

Be a protector. Let your child know that you are there for him. In this day and age there are many dangers in the world. It isn't easy keeping children safe therefore put limits on what he can do. Know who his friends are. Ask where he is going. Make sure proper adult supervision is provided. Don't allow him to be in adult situations because he is still a child. Set rules and curfews. Monitor Internet usage, television and movie viewing, and phone and texting.
