Things You'll Need:

  • Comcast cable box or DVR remote control
  • Comcast remote control manual

Programming When You Know Your Device Code

  1. Step 1

In the Comcast manual, locate the setup code for your TV. In the back of the manual is a list of setup codes for a variety of devices. Find the manufacturer of your TV on the list and note the five-digit codes listed. Some manufacturers have only one code while some may have several. For those that have several, you may have to try all of the codes before finding the correct one.

  2. Step 2

Manually power on your television. Turning on your TV will allow you test the remote when it has been programmed.

  3. Step 3

Press the TV button on the Comcast remote once. This will set the TV control to the TV button instead of the AUX or CABLE button.

  4. Step 4

Press and hold the SETUP button until the TV button blinks twice.

  5. Step 5

Enter the five digit code for your TV using the number pad on the remote control. If you enter the code correctly, the TV button will blink twice. If you enter an invalid code, the TV button will show one long blink and exit the programming mode. If this happens, repeat Steps 3-5 and enter a valid code.

  6. Step 6

Point the remote control at your TV and press POWER. If you've entered the correct code, the TV should power off. If the TV doesn't get turned off, repeat the process with another code listed for the manufacturer of your TV.

  7. Programming When You Don't Know Your Device Code

  8. Step 1

Power on your TV. If you've tried all the codes for your TV and the remote still isn't working or if your manufacturer isn't listed in the manual, the Comcast remote control can search for the correct code.

  9. Step 2

Press TV on the remote once, then press and hold SETUP until the TV button blinks twice.

  10. Step 3

Enter 991 on the Comcast remote control keypad. The TV button will blink twice. Press and release 1 on the keypad. The TV button will again blink twice.

  11. Step 4

Press POWER, then aim the remote at the TV and press and hold CH+ until the TV is turned off.

  12. Step 5

Press SETUP once to lock in the code after the TV turns off.
