Hardwood floors are a beautiful addition to any home. They look beautiful with any décor. Over the course of time many hardwood floors will develop a squeak. There always seem to be certain areas of the floor that makes a squeaking sound when you walk on it. It usually happens to the floor boards right outside the room you are trying to be the most quiet.       To stop a hardwood floor from squeaking buy powdered graphite and force it between the noisy floor boards. You may have to use a putty knife to really push the powdered graphite in. Powdered graphite is available at home improvement stores and hardware stores.

      Sprinkle unscented talcum powder over the squeaky area. Walk back and forth to make the talcum powder settle in between the floor boards and fall in between the cracks. Use a broom to sweep the talcum powder back and forth over the area.

      Pour a mild liquid soap on the squeaking hardwood floor boards. Make sure to only follow the line of the hardwood floor boards. Use only unscented, clear liquid soap. Leave on for about an hour and then wipe up the excess. This remedy works as a temporary measure to stop squeaking hardwood floors.
