Once you make this Oreo Cookie ice cream cake, you'll be asked to make it again and again. You may never be able to bring another dish to a potluck again!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stick of melted butter
  • Package of oreo or store brand cream filled sandwich cookies
  • Half gallon of cookies and cream ice cream
  • Jar of hot fudge sauce
  • 8 ounce container of Cool Whip or whipped topping, thawed
  1. Step 1

Combine crushed cookies with melted butter. Pour cookie/butter mixture into 9x13 inch deep dish freezer safe pan. Press to form a thick crust. Freeze until firm, at least one hour.

  2. Step 2

Spread softened ice cream over crust. Freeze until firm, at least one hour.

  3. Step 3

Warm hot fudge until consistency is spreadable. Spread over frozen ice cream layer. Freeze until firm, at least one hour.

  4. Step 4

Spread thawed whipped topping over firm hot fudge layer. Freeze until firm, at least one hour. Store cake in the frezer until ready to serve.

  5. Step 5

To serve - remove from freezer about 10 minutes before serving to allow cake to soften a bit. Cut into 16 large or 20 medium size servings with a sharp knife.

Tips & Warnings
  • The flavor variations on this cake are endless.
  • Crust - You can cut some of the fat and calories by reducing the butter to 1/2 stick. This impacts the texture and richness of the crust's flavor a bit, but you may not even notice it.
  • Crust variety - Choose any kind of crunchy cookie. For sandwich creams, do not remove the filling. That's the best part!
  • Ice cream variety - use any flavor you like. If your brand of ice cream no longer comes packaged in a half gallon container, the 1.75 quart size will do just fine.
  • Hot fudge can be replaced with any jar of ice cream topping: caramel, butterscotch, strawberry, etc.
  • Try vanilla sandwich cream cookies, strawberry ice cream, and strawberry ice cream topping for a strawberry version.
  • Chocolate sandwich creams filled with mint, mint chocolate chip ice cream, hot fudge.
  • The cake is very thick and difficult to cut. Use a shark knife and cut on a steady surface. Dipping the knife into a bowl of hot water and then drying with a towel in between slices helps to make cutting easier.
