This article will show how to shovel snow off a roof from the ground.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Snow roof rake
  • Possibly a ladder
  1. Step 1
    Snow roof rake

Getting on the roof to shovel snow off is a very dangerous thing to try to do. An alternative is to shovel (or pull) the snow off the roof with a roof rake as seen in the picture.

  2. Step 2

If it's impossible to obtain a roof snow rake to be able to remove snow from the roof while standing on the ground and it's imperative for you to get on the roof, the safe thing to do is tie yourself off with a safety rope. This will require a pretty long rope. Stretch the rope up and over the roof to the other side and tie it off on something sturdy like a tree.

  3. Step 3

A good knot to use at this time is the bowline knot see: http://www.ehow.com/how_4689194_tie-bowline-knot.html This is a good knot because is if easy to untie and retie over and over again.

  4. Step 4

An extension ladder would be required if you insist on getting on the roof although it is highly not recommended to do so. Also use a small blunt nose shovel of a push broom. A huge snow shovel is just too hard to control.

Tips & Warnings
  • A snow roof rake works great
  • Getting on the roof with snow on it is not recommended.
