Step 1
If you want to quit smoking cigarettes, find your inner motivation.
Why do you want to quit? What do you have in your life that you want to quit for? Smoking is deadly. Your life depends on finding your inner motivation. -
Step 2
Don't wait one second longer.
Once you have your inner motivation, that's it...stop smoking right now! If you have any cigarettes, throw them away. Procrastination makes the situation worse, and it won't make you any healthier. -
Step 3
If you need to use medication, use it.
Smoking cigarettes is chemically addicting, breaking the hold that these chemicals have over you isn't easy. Some people need a boost, if you do, fine, consult your doctor. But do it now! Quitting smoking requires action without procrastination. -
Step 4
Collect the money you're saving from not smoking.
Take a clear glass or plastic container and each day add to it the amount you would be spending if you were smoking cigarettes. Watching the money in the jar grow will provide an extra source of motivation. -
Step 5
Know that it's not going to be easy.
If your expectations for the process of quitting smoking are realistic, you stand a great shot at success. -
Step 6
Quit with a friend.
Or at the very least, talk to a close friend throughout the quitting process. Companionship is a powerful motivator!
