How to Begin a House Sitting Business

House sitting could involve watching someone's pets.

Many businesses take capital. One startup business that requires virtually no money is to begin a house sitting business for yourself. And it's quick to start up.

Instructions

1. Make up business cards on the computer so you will have them to give to new customers or advertise your new house sitting business. If you are willing to pet sit, or do pet care too, include that on your business card.

2. Become bonded and insured. Contact an insurance agent to learn about your options. Liability insurance covers you for damage while house sitting.

3. Contact all your neighbors to inform them you are willing to house sit. Ask them for personal references at that time so you have some written letters of recommendation for your new customers. Ask them if you can use them for a good character referral when others think about hiring you.

4. Go to travel agencies and leave your card after you tell them your plans to begin a house sitting business. Bring a copy of all your letters of referral so they can confidently recommend you to people that go on short or long trips and need your services.

5. Place a 3X5 index card in all veterinarians' clinics in your area. If you can, make an appointment to talk with a veterinarian. Take only 10 minutes to tell him of your willingness to do house sitting and pet sitting if you are willing to combine those.

6. Go to the local library and ask if you can post one of your business cards in the building. Some visiting people use the computers there while traveling. Some travelers need a house sitter or a pet sitter for a short time while they take a day trip

7. Put business cards on all grocery store bulletin boards in your neighborhood advertising your new start up house sitting business. When you go to the clinics or your doctors office, ask if you can leave some business cards in the waiting room to advertise your house sitting business.

8. Converse with people at stores to let them know you will house sit. Give them your card if they would consider taking one to advertise your house sitting business.
