Cleaning Pan Fish can be a challenge if you cannot control the scales. You can control the scales by using a plastic grocery bag.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pan Fish
  • Fork or Spoon for scaling
  • Plastic grocery bag
  • Knife
  • Clean pan
  • Running Water
  1. Step 1

Collect the amount of fish to be cleaned. Fish should not be frozen. Room temperature is preferred. Can be freshly caught, however if freshly caught you will need to wash away extra slime under running water before placing into bag for scaling.

  2. Step 2

Gather plastic shopping bags. You can double the bags for better protection and place the fish inside the bag on the kitchen counter. Scrape the scales from the tail toward the head of the fish sides while containing the scales into the bag. Wipe scales off of fish and rinse under running water.

  3. Step 3

Place fish inside second plastic bag and remove inner content. Rinse under running water until clean. Place cleaned fish into bowl and place plastic bags with waste in trash. Wash knife and prepare fish for cooking and serving.
