1
Choose a theme. Your baby's room can have many different images in it, but a cohesive theme will make you and your baby feel more comfortable. The best themes are simple and easily translated into decor, with images that will become more understandable to the child over time. Examples are animals, letters, numbers or plants/flowers.

Pick your paint colors. You may wish to paint each wall a different color, or you might prefer a solid color throughout. Because this article assumes your focus will be on the pictures you choose, avoid painting designs on the wall. Stick to bright, solid colors that will highlight your chosen images.

3
Place wall decals low on the wall, close to the floor, to be encountered and explored by the baby while playing. Select decals that fit your theme, such as large flowers, animals or letters and numbers.

4
Select your pictures. Pictures in a nursery should be concrete, clear and bold. If your theme is animals then you might select several clearly different animals that will one day be identifiable to your child. They can be photographs, paintings or cartoons; the important factor is that they are visually pleasant so your baby will enjoy looking at them.

5
Mount your pictures around the room. Keep in mind that you want your child to notice and interact with them. You might put some over the crib, one by the changing table and several behind the rocking chair so that the child can see them while on your shoulder.

Mount posters on the ceiling to engage the child from the crib. Alternatively, you can also use a mobile or a crib entertainment center to serve this purpose.
