Rechargeable notebook computer batteries tend to decrease in performance life over time and usage. Generally, a reduction in battery life can be noticed after 18 to 24 months. Once the battery life can no longer meet your portable needs, then it would be time to purchase a new battery. Notebook batteries can be widely found online (see References below); make sure that the battery is compatible with the make and model of your notebook computer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Completely shut down the laptop and disconnect any cables that are plugged in.

  2. Step 2

Shut the monitor closed and flip the computer over so that the underside is facing you.

  3. Step 3

Press and move your thumb towards the direction arrow labeled on the battery safety release latch.

  4. Step 4

Remove the battery in an upward motion. Repeat this motion in the opposite direction when inserting the new battery.

  5. Step 5

Plug in the AC adapter cable to the notebook for about 8 to 12 hours to ensure a full battery charge.
