How to Block an Unwanted Website

The Internet Explorer Web browser has a content advisor tool. The content advisor allows you to control website access, including restricting access to a particular website. The common reason for website blocking is to prevent children from surfing inappropriate Internet domains.

Instructions

    Blocking a Website

  1. Step 1

    Open Internet Explorer.

  2. Step 2

    Click the menu "Tools > Internet Options." Select the tab "Content."

  3. Step 3

    Click the button "Settings" under "Content Advisor." Type the supervisor password (see Section 2) and click "OK."

  4. Step 4

    Select the tab "Approved Sites" in the content advisor window.

  5. Step 5

    Type a website address (URL) in the field and click "Never." Then click "OK."

  6. Step 6

    Click "OK" again to close the Internet options window.

  7. Enabling the Content Advisor and Creating a Supervisor Password

  8. Step 1

    Open Internet Explorer.

  9. Step 2

    Click the menu "Tools > Internet Options." Select the tab "Content."

  10. Step 3

    Click the button "Enable" under "Content Advisor" and select the tab "General."

  11. Step 4

    Click "Create Password." Type any string in the password field, then retype it in the field "Confirm password." Provide a password hint and click "OK." It creates a supervisor password for the Content Advisor.

  12. Step 5

    Check the box "Users can see websites that have no rating" under user options.

  13. Step 6

    Uncheck the box "Supervisor can type a password ..." under user options.

  14. Step 7

    Click "OK" to enable the Content Advisor.
