Microsoft Outlook is a popular email application used by individuals and businesses around the world. Outlook does more than just email---the program has a calendar, a contact/address book and other features for managing notes and tasks. The email portion of the program allows users to attach files such as spreadsheets, presentations and photos to outgoing email messages. Attachments can be opened, changed, saved and printed all from within Microsoft Outlook.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open Microsoft Outlook.

  2. Step 2

Locate the email containing the attachment that you would like to open and change. Double-click on the message to open in its own window.

  3. Step 3

Double-click on the attachment file located in the email. The attachment will open in the respective program that it was created in (for example, a Word document will open in Microsoft Word or an associated program for opening Word documents).

  4. Step 4

View the opened file and make any necessary changes. After the changes are made, click "File" then "Save." If you would like to save a copy of the changed file to your hard drive, click "File," "Save As" after you have done the first "Save." Close the document and return to Microsoft Outlook.

  5. Step 5

Reply to the email or forward the email to other individuals in your address book/contact list. You may want to double-click on the attachment again to ensure the changes saved before clicking "Send."

Tips & Warnings
  • Only open attachments from trusted sources. Save a copy of any changed documents to your own computer as a record of you receiving the file and making changes.
