OpenOffice.org is an open source office suite that offers users most of the same capabilities as commercial suites, such as Microsoft Office. With a word processor, a spreadsheet program, a multimedia presentation program, and programs for creating and editing images, OpenOffice is a useful tool for any number of office tasks.
OpenOffice is especially useful for users of Linux-based systems, such as those using the popular Ubuntu operating system. While the OpenOffice installation itself is not particularly difficult, installing any program in Ubuntu can present a challenge to the average Ubuntu user.
