Hanging Birdbath
Hanging Birdbath

A landscape isn't complete without a birdbath. If you've priced birdbaths recently, you know they aren't cheap. Here's a way to have that birdbath without the pricey tag:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • quick-set cement
  • bowl
  • water
  • rubber gloves
  • hanging wire planter
  • large hook to hang birdbath
  1. Step 1
    Use an old bowl

    Use an old bowl

With any size bowl for a mold, pour some quick-set cement into it. Use your own judgement as to how much cement you'll need. Add some water, using your own judgement again. The cement must not be runny. You can always add more cement or water as needed.

  2. Step 2
    Wait 48 hours

Put on rubber gloves. Using your hands, mix the water and cement thoroughly. Keep mixing it until it starts to set. Pat the cement in the bottom of the bowl as you work it. Make sure the bottom is not too thick. As the cement is setting, start pushing some cement up the sides. Do this until the sides are the height you want.

  3. Step 3
After 48 hours, it's ready for water.

Once the birdbath is formed the way you want it, set it someplace to cure for 48 hours.

  4. Step 4
Make sure the hanging planter is sturdy.

When the birdbath has cured completely, place it in the hanging planter and fill with water.

  5. Step 5
Wait, and the birds will come.

If you'd prefer, the birdbath can be placed in your flower garden on the ground.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may also want to stain or paint the birdbath.
  • Leave the inside of the birdbath as it is so as to not put anything toxic in the bird's water.
  • Cement is heavy so make sure your hanging planter can hold the weight.
  • Use a large hook to hang the birdbath.
